STUDENT/AMATEUR DEFINITION

Anyone who has not received regular compensation for competition, instruction or performances. For example, if you have ever received money for a performance at a major salsa festival, taught regularly for compensation weekly or monthly, or ever competed in the professional category in any salsa competition you are considered a professional. Occasional and rare instances for receiving money for any local performance or one time teaching work is permitted under the student/amateur category.

LENGTH OF DANCE

The suggested length of the routine is approximately 2 minutes. Maximum length is 3 mins. (Length of dance over 3 mins may incur penalty from the judges. You may check with the orrganizers regarding the length of music you will use if unsure of whether or not it may incur penalty).
#Update: 17 Feb: SOLO competitors. We understand the length of music can be shorter for example 1 min 30 secs or thereabouts, is fine.

JUDGING PROCEDURE

The couples are expected to have a one prepared and choreographed routine for the competition. The choreography can be danced on a selected break (eg On1 or On2) and this break should be consistent throughout your routine. Any styles of salsa can be used in the choreography.  Routines must ideally reflect the following: Turn Patterns, Open Shines, Footwork, Floorcraft, Dance Technique, Musicality. Tricks, dips, and lifts are also permitted.

FINALITY DECISION

Judges for the World Salsa Championships (HK) at the sole discretion of the Competition Director.
Any interpretation of any aspect of these Rules and Regulations or any decision involving any other aspect of the competition will be rendered by the Competition Director and the Head Judge of the Panel. The Committee will render a judgment in an effort to ensure that the competition proceeds in a manner consistent with the general spirit and goals of the competition. Any persons / couples  that do not adhere to the terms and procedures of these “Rules and Regulations” will be subject to disqualification from the competition and will automatically forfeit any right to any prizes or awards presented by the competition. In the event of any dispute, final decision will be made by the Competition Director and the Head Judge of the Panel.

ELIGIBILITY

Dancers entering to the competition have to be 17 years or older and have residency or nationality in the country they are representing. If dancers in couple or teams hold residencyin different countries then they can choose to represent one of those countires or a combination of 2 countries.
